Nurturing Health and Sustainability: Rocket’s Earth & Wellness Month

April marks not only the blossoming of spring but also the time when Rocket holds its annual Earth & Wellness month, a period dedicated to fostering a culture of health, wellbeing, and sustainability within our bustling community.

In the fast-paced realm of hospitality, where every moment counts, April offers us a valuable chance to turn our focus inward, prioritising our physical and mental health, and nurturing our environment (alongside doing our day jobs of course!) Here’s a glimpse into the enriching activities that filled our days during this memorable month.

Embracing Wellness

April kicked off with gusto as we laced up our running shoes for weekly 5k runs through the serene paths of Battersea Park, a refreshing break after a day’s work. For those seeking an even greater endorphin rush, we arranged for a special personal training session one evening where the sun came out just in time for burpees and mountain climbers. Those looking for a more gentle approach had the opportunity to join a Monday morning yoga class, a rejuvenating way to ease into the week ahead.

In addition to physical movement, there was also the spotlight on healthy eating, with our chefs designing a special wellness month lunch menu featuring vibrant and wholesome dishes like colourful salads, fragrant fish curries, and nourishing soups. To highlight the importance of a healthy start, there was a special staff breakfast one particularly busy morning complete with fruit and muesli pots, fresh fruit juices, and indulgent bagels adorned with smoked salmon, bacon, and avocado.

Recognising the importance of mental health, we worked with the team at Well & Being to design a specially curated workshop tailored to the unique challenges of the hospitality industry. These sessions offered invaluable insights and support, reminding us that self-care is not just a luxury but a necessity.

Championing Sustainability

At Rocket, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a driving force in all of our actions. Throughout the month, we rolled up our sleeves for hands-on workshops, ensuring that every member of our team was aligned in our mission to reduce waste, lower our emissions, and meet our ambitious sustainability targets.

We reaffirmed our commitment to the community by lending a hand at a local community rooftop garden where volunteers helped paint benches, trim foliage, and plant seeds. Another group volunteered at Ace of Clubs, a Clapham-based charity that provides nutritious meals for the homeless and vulnerable, and where Rocket has had a long-standing relationship.

Our culinary skills took centre stage in a bake-off with a twist—using commonly wasted food ingredients. Judged by Rocket’s Founder & Director Caroline Hall and Senior Head Chef Mathieu Defranse, the whole office benefited from a sugar high that afternoon, but there was one undisputed champion, a delectable miso and sesame banana bread, proving that sustainability and gastronomic delight can go hand in hand.

As Earth & Wellness month draws to a close, the spirit of renewal and resilience lingers on. With each step we take towards better health and a greener tomorrow, we affirm our commitment to fostering a culture of care, both within our Rocket family and beyond.
