At Rocket, we’re known for phenomenal food, industry-leading creativity and faultless service — the ingredients behind unforgettable events at the country’s most prestigious venues.
We’re looking for a Head of Event Operations to make sure every event runs smoothly, safely, and brilliantly — from staffing and service plans to compliance and cost control — so our clients feel completely in safe hands. The role (what you’ll own)
You’re the person who turns ambition into reality — leading the practical delivery of our events and ensuring we consistently exceed expectations through operational excellence. Think: calm leadership on site, sharp planning in advance, and the confidence to brief and direct large teams with clarity.
What you’ll be doing
1) Deliver exceptional events, every time
Lead operational planning and delivery across BOH operations and FOH service, including briefing large FOH teams.
Produce clear Rocket Notes and share operational comms across the business.
Own service detail: complex service plans, send/receive on dinners, and scale confidently up to large-format dining (500+ guests).
Partner with Sales on site visits, tastings, tenders, and venue comms (security lists, delivery schedules, RAMS).
Build trusted relationships with key venues and clients — becoming a goto operational contact and raising standards through great partnership.
2) Lead and grow a brilliant operations & staffing team.
Manage the fulltime Operations team of 4: performance development, appraisals and allocation of the right managers to the right events.
Build a strong bench of freelance Operations Managers: recruit, train, brief, and set them up to deliver impeccably.
Oversee front of house & staffing: lead the Staffing Manager and their team, strengthen agency relationships, and ensure quality feedback loops on casual staff performance.
Bring operational insight to senior forums (Senior Management/Troubleshoot) and present operations strategy to leadership.
3) Control cost, without compromising the magic
Own operational cost management with the business operations director: deliver monthly KPI/compliance reporting across drinks, equipment and staffing.
Oversee drinks: evolve the offering, negotiate supplier pricing, maintain robust stock take and controls.
Oversee equipment: smart hiring, fewer breakages, well-maintained kit — operationally slick, client-facing flawless delivery.
Help ensure departments meet/exceed gross profit budgets set by the finance director.
4) Set the standard for compliance & best practice
Champion 100% compliance with venue regulations, tender requirements, and Rocket’s Health & Safety approach.
Keep RAMS templates current; ensure event Risk Assessments and Method Statements are completed for all external events.
Ensure Operations Managers have the right qualifications (e.g., first aid, licensing, fire warden where required) and that front of house teams are briefed on event/venue-specific health & safety.
About you (what “good” looks like)
You lead by example and coach and mentor your team to help them grow and become the best they can be.
You’re operationally exceptional: organised, decisive, and hands-on — someone people trust when it matters most.
Confident leading big teams in premium environments, with a clear communication style and high standards.
Strong commercial instinct: you care about detail and the numbers (staffing efficiency, equipment hire, drinks margins).
Calm under pressure, solutions-first, and proud to be an ambassador of the brand on site.
Why Rocket
Because we’re serious about craft and experience — where exceptional food meets extraordinary experiences — and we want someone who’s excited to raise the bar on how brilliantly events are delivered.
If you’ve got that blend of standards, warmth and drive — that unmistakable “Rocketness” — you’ll thrive here.
