A Food Lover’s Guide to the Jubilee Weekend

The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is a historic moment in British history and the entire nation is excited and getting ready to celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime royal event. From luxurious afternoon tea at the Queen’s country retreat in Sandringham to a grand spring picnic in Windsor, we’ve created a food lover’s guide of the places you can indulge in fabulous food and drink over the upcoming four-day bank holiday weekend.

Afternoon Tea in Sandringham Estate

Sandringham Estate has planned some very exciting activities over the extended bank holiday weekend. This includes a luxurious Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea at the well-loved Sandringham Restaurant where guests can delight in homemade teatime snacks and treats—from sandwiches to pastries—made with locally sourced produce from the Estate. The delicious menu will be served with Sandringham teas, coffee, and a decadent glass of Prosecco.

The 24-hectare estate in Norfolk is also located near historic sites like the Royal Parkland and medieval parish churches for a piece of history and architecture. It’s the perfect weekend getaway with the family. The Platinum Jubilee Afternoon tea is available from Saturday the 4th to Sunday the 5th and must be pre-booked in advance.

British Street Party in Mayfair

For those wanting to experience the Platinum Jubilee in the big city, head to Mayfair to experience a grand foodie street party where people can enjoy delectable, Jubilee-themed menus and cocktails from some of London’s top restaurants. For the first time in history, North Audley Street will be closed to traffic from Thursday the 2nd to Friday the 3rd of June to make way for the occasion.

In true Mayfair style, the street will have a beautifully designed 200ft banqueting table as the centrepiece amid wonderful dancing, live music festivities and fashion pop-ups. The party table, curated by LAY London co-founders and sisters Jemima and Alice Herbert, will feature whimsical and quintessentially English details reminiscent of the countryside as well as the British Royal Family’s manicured palace gardens.

Food Festival at Blenheim Palace

From Thursday the 2nd to Sunday the 5th of June, Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire will be organising a massive gastronomic festival set at the stunning UNESCO World Heritage Site. Now in its 8th year, the festival will run over the Jubilee bank holiday weekend and feature a fantastic assortment of British food stalls and vendors offering artisan fine foods like award-winning cheeses, street food snacks, gourmet baked goods, and even craft beer.

Don’t miss notable guest chefs including celebrity chef Gennaro Contaldo, restaurateur Andy Clarke, and Great British Bake Off star Karen Wright, among others, as they teach masterclasses in pasta-making, baking, and cocktails. French chef Raymond Blanc OBE will also be sharing his wealth of culinary knowledge during an insightful Q&A in the Festival Kitchen.

Grand Long Table Lunch in Windsor

To honour the Platinum Jubilee, Windsor is hosting their famous Big Lunch with a Commonwealth theme on Sunday the 5th of June. This year, organisers of the annual outdoor luncheon are planning to put together 500m worth of picnic tables, enough to seat at least 1,600 people for this memorable day in history. The picnic also aims to break the record for the longest ever picnic table in the world!

Running all the way from Cambridge Gate towards the Copper Horse, the supersized picnic is part of Windsor’s four days of festivities. Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics or buy from the event’s food and refreshments stalls. Additionally, guests can also celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style with a pre-ordered regal picnic hamper curated by five-star country haven Coworth Park. The hamper serves two and includes delicious savoury and sweet bites like handmade pork pie with Coworth Park piccalilli, English asparagus, goat’s cheese and red onion quiche, classic Coronation Chicken roll, as well as English Strawberries with Vanilla Cream. Don’t forget to add a bottle of Nyetimber English Sparkling Wine to enjoy with your lunch, it is a celebration after all!
