Meet the Eco Rocketeers. Who are we, you might ask?

You may have guessed from the name that we are Rocket’s very own sustainability champions. A committee of passionate people from across the company, collaborating to ensure that with each lavish party or dinner, we are creating a company culture in which sustainable practices are the norm.

We formed at the end of last year to begin the process. It’s no mean feat to essentially tear up some of the old ways and bring in new. From finding viable and more genuinely carbon neutral – you’d be amazed at how much of what’s being promoted as sustainable is in fact, less so – plastic alternatives, to working closely with our own suppliers as to how they can aid us on our mission. It’s been a massive learning curve thus far and we know that there’s plenty of learning to come.

So what are we doing now?

Well, step one has been auditing.

As frustrating as it may be to not be straight into action mode, it’s pretty impossible to make trackable improvements if you don’t know where you’re beginning. So we’re combing through each department to see where we use plastics (especially single use), where we could be more efficient, where changes can be made. There are some easy wins (goodbye paper plates in our staff canteen, hello new light-weight tin versions) and some bigger challenges to come but we are on the right track and the conversation is open.

But this isn’t just about us. It’s about you, our clients, our venue partners, our own suppliers. In fact, it’s about the whole industry.
